This issue contains
an article that presents our ongoing efforts to provide our clients
an excellent transition of existing applications to open systems,
including the Internet.
About
J & C Migrations
Founded in 1995, J & C Migrations (JCM) specializes in conversions
to emulation-free, structured, standard COBOL, with record definitions
that can be loaded into database schemas. The company's technology
facilitates painless conversions of antiquated, proprietary, legacy
code to modern systems. Among our customers are IT system integrators,
government agencies, manufacturers, distributors, and financial
institutions.
Business
and IT
To remain competitive and retain market share, a company needs to
efficiently address new and changing requirements. New technical
innovations have evolved to answer these urgent needs.
It is essential
that your new applications have seamless integration with existing
core applications, and also, that the applications you build will
support both current and future application integration standards.
Application
integration techniques have evolved, beginning with point-to-point
interfaces that had little or no commonalities, and advancing through
Electronic Data Interchange (EDI), Application Program Interfaces
(API), Common Object Resource Brokers (CORBA), Enterprise Java Beans
(EJB), and XML tagged data.
Extinction
Technological evolution has resulted in a large variety of languages,
utility programs, storage, database, and communication technologies.
As technologies mature and survivors emerge, some core applications
have the wrong dependencies.
Extinction may
not be rapid, but as time goes on, new features become scarce, and
support disappears. When employees leave or retire it is often impossible
to replace their skills. With time, the management of heterogeneous
components becomes a drain on productivity. Yet, some such legacy
applications critical to your business cannot be replaced or rewritten.
The
Solution
To reuse your code, you will need to either convert it into a winning
technology available in your new environment, or emulate your current
environment while adding data interfaces. JCM provides an emulation-free
path to winning technologies, including COBOL and Java.
You are already
familiar with JCM cross compilers that generate structured COBOL,
allowing you great freedom in selecting your Server platform. We
are currently working on integrating our compilers with tools that
translate COBOL into Java classes. This integration will provide
modular application components, and allow you to place certain components
on the Internet platform, facilitating development and integration
of e-business applications.
To eliminate
the possibility of being stuck with dying technologies, JCM also
offers training on advance planning of application development for
future maintenance.
If you cannot
reuse a core application in current development, such as a move
to a Relational or Object database, or to an e-business environment,
you will still need to convert and access your data. JCM can automate
your conversion of data to XML format.
The Internet
has emerged as a computing platform that harnesses computation by
powerful Desktops and Laptops, and the high reliability of diffuse
communications Servers. Exciting Java development, using platform
independence and an open standard, is a dominant force. Java is
enhanced by its close relationship to the popular engineering language
C++. We are delighted to help bridge the gap between past and future
technologies, allowing you to leapfrog your competition.
We look forward
to doing business with you soon!
