Article: Marketplace Developments, COBOL and Linux
Company
News
With demand increasing for AS/400 conversions to S/390 and Unix,
development is now being concentrated on enhancing our RPG/400 conversion
to ANSI COBOL with embedded SQL. Work has also begun on parsing
RPG ILE (RPG IV).
Support for
AS/400 interactive facilities will be based on the interface used
to isolate the User Interfaces of the CICS BMS maps and the X/Open
Screen Section on S/390 and Unix systems. This interface proved
successful this year during conversions of S/36 applications from
AS/400 to S/390, Linux, and Windows environments.
In addition
to COBOL maintenance consulting services, we now provide programming
services for Assembler, C, and C++ maintenance.
Our new PRIVACY
POLICY gives customers the control on whether we identify them on
our Web pages.
Our new CONFIDENTIALITY
AGREEMENT gives clients equal protection of their sources as we
ask for our technology. One key phrase provides that both sides
would use Confidential Information they receive strictly for the
benefit of the owner of that information.
Marketplace
Developments, COBOL and Linux
In the past year, much of the demand we have seen has been concentrated
on conversions from AS/400 (S/36 emulation, native RPG/400, and
RPG/ILE) to S/390 (MVS and Linux (yes, Linux on S/390) environments),
and to Unix and Linux servers.
Linux is an
Open Source version of Unix. The Open Source community, providing
such popular products as the GNU compilers and tools, offers a fast
growing, high quality, low cost, low risk alternative to proprietary
systems. It is based on the idea that the common good is more important
than individual advantage, and that development based on pride in
workmanship, and receiving consensus acceptance based on peer review,
leads to better results than any other Quality Assurance program.
Open Source means that programs that incorporate Open Source components
cannot be sold without their sources, and that these sources become
public knowledge.
While Linux
is still mostly Server-centric, the availability of high quality
free Word Processors, E-mail Clients, Web Browsers, Games, and other
popular desktop applications, makes it a significant threat to Microsoft's
hegemony.

We would be
happy to receive your feedback, and look forward to working with
you in 2002.
