Why replace RPG?
RPGII, RPGIII, and CPG are proprietary, cryptic, and obsolete. They require
special computers, runtimes, APIs, licenses, and skills. RPG skills and
tools are not as plentiful or rich featured. RPG/400 is also cryptic
and proprietary.
Why JCM and not an ISO-9000 off-shore service?
Just compare the quality of our work, turn-around time, and references.
Manual conversions, however careful, introduce risk, errors, and inconsistency.
Our high quality automated translation reduces your risks and costs.
Why COBOL and not C or C++?
C is a Systems Implementation language that is most appropriate for certain
engineering tasks, and high-performance systems services to replace old
assembler modules. C++ is an Object Oriented extension of C, providing for
class encapsulation and inheritance. COBOL is the most common business
language, with multiple vendors competing on Mainframes, Minis,
Unix, and PC environments. COBOL is based on a public standard,
and is the most portable, and best supported business language in
all of the above environments. COBOL is more readable and self documenting
than C, and provides Object Orientation facilities comprable to
those of C++. COBOL has as many trained programmers as C and C++,
if not more.

Can you convert my RPG to C?
Yes.
When
should I convert and not replace?
While many packages can be bought off-the-shelf, certain applications perform
processes that are unique to your specialized business, and serve your core
business and competitive advantage. A conversion lets you benefit from past
investment.
Why convert?
Here are a few of the most common reasons:
System or database upgrade, or a change of strategic platform require
migration of applications.
Your working software contains valuable Business Rules and Data
Definitions. If you need to maintain or enhance business applications,
or to recover lost documentation from your program sources, then
translating your RPG components to structured COBOL will provide
readable sources, as well as let you use best of breed tools for
extracting data structure, documentation, and know-how from your
existing applications.
Installations that have a mixture of RPG and COBOL applications,
may pay more for Software Licenses, Staffing, and Configuration
Management.
Division reorganization or company acquisitions require unification
of heterogeneous data processing.

What are JCM's technical advantages?
The JCMRPG translation service, using a suite of integrated cross-compilers,
provides an automated, repeatable process with rapid turn-around
times that allow you to dictate the schedule.
The generated COBOL is structured, readable, standard compliant,
and highly portable, with the underlying "runtime" limited
to five small subroutines, whose sources are provided.
The translation even allows you to retain comments in proximity
to the code they document.
